I saw his tweet and told him that I'm interested in volunteering for him.
What is Pencils Of Promise?
Pencils of Promise, also known as PoP for short, is a non-profit organization that builds schools and increases educational opportunities in the developing world. Pencils of Promise was founded by Adam Braun in October 2008. It is a organization with school-building operations in Laos, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Ghana. By June 2013, the charity has built more than 150 schools in a number of countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
I was told to come to Marina Bay Sands Expo to meet the person who will be expecting me and the rest of us who are volunteering to help Adam.
It was my first time entering and volunteering for such a big conference by finance company and other company. Each of us received a free 'Pencils Of Promise' t-shirt to wear so that we will be recognized as volunteers of Pencils of Promise.
Sidetrack for a moment, haha.
(Justin Bieber supports this charity and organization to help build school for kids worldwide so it means, i'm a step closer to Justin Bieber, haha. Since i receive the t-shirt to wear for the event, I can officially say that i have the same t-shirt as Justin Bieber.)
The job that was given to us was a very simple job. All we have to do is go around from table to table to collect business cards from every individuals who wants to collaborate with this organizations.
While Adam was giving his speech on stage, I took this chance to know more about this organization too. It amazed me so much on how it all started with a little amount of money to help other children in getting education and now, the organization has build more that 150 schools, worldwide. I felt so touched with what they did to help childrens from Africa, India, Cambodia and more. These kids don't get to go to school. Even if they do, the school or education given is not suitable for them. And Adam also mentioned that he once asked some kids if they're given a chance to have one thing in life, what will it be?
Some kids said they want magic, they want books but the answer that builds this organization was an answer from a kid saying "I want a pencil." so that's how this organization starts.
I felt really honoured that i got to help out for this organization even though it only lasted for 2 hours. After Adam gave his speech, we went back to the waiting area and got to chat with him for a while. I managed to get a selfie and some photos with him and the rest of us.
But that's not the point...
It would be great if you guys, my lovely readers, make some donations to this organization to help build school and give education to kids. You can check and know them more at www.pencilsofpromise.org
Let's help make a difference and always remember to give back (;
Lots of Love,
xx
